Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026
Yaniko Video Downloader is published by Yaniko Software ("we", "us"), operated from Belgium. This
policy explains what data we collect through the website (getyaniko.com) and the
desktop app, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.
Who is responsible for your data
The controller for the data described here is Yannick Yanga, a sole trader
established in Belgium, enterprise number 1041.029.833. For any question about
your data, write to privacy@getyaniko.com.
What we collect
If you buy Premium:
- Your email address, which you give to our payment processor, Stripe, at checkout.
- Your payment card details are entered directly into Stripe's checkout — we never see or store them ourselves.
- We keep the Stripe customer ID and email tied to your purchase, used to confirm your licence and to email you your licence key.
The desktop app:
- After activation, the app stores a signed license token on your own computer (in your user Library folder) and sends it back to our server each time it needs to confirm the licence is still valid.
- Alongside that token, the app sends a device identifier so that a licence covers the number of Macs it was bought for — one for Solo, three for Family. It is derived from your Mac's hardware identifier, one-way hashed before it leaves your computer — we receive only the hash, never the hardware identifier itself, and it tells us nothing about you or your Mac beyond letting us recognise it as the same one. We store it against your Stripe customer record, together with the dates of any transfers to another Mac, for as long as your licence exists.
- The app keeps a list of what you have downloaded — file path, title, source page, size and date — so the Downloaded tab can show it. That list stays on your computer and is never sent to us.
- When you download a video, the app talks directly to the source site (YouTube, etc.) from your own computer. We don't see or log the URLs you download.
- If you provide browser cookies to download age-restricted or private content, those cookies are used locally by the app and are never transmitted to us.
If you send a problem report:
- Nothing is ever sent automatically. When you choose Account → Report a Problem, the app shows you the exact log excerpt it would include, and nothing leaves your Mac until you press Send.
- What is sent: your description, that log excerpt, the app version, your macOS version, and an email address only if you choose to give one for follow-up.
- Before the excerpt is shown to you or sent, the app strips out your macOS user name, your licence token, and the path to any cookies file you selected.
The website:
- getyaniko.com sets no cookies and uses no third-party trackers.
- We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages people find useful. It is cookie-free and does not follow you across other websites. Each page view records the time, the page address and the page you arrived from, an approximate location (country, region, city), and your browser, operating system and device type. Your IP address is not stored: a visitor is recognised only by a value derived from the request, which is discarded after 24 hours. We see totals, never individual people, and nothing here is combined with your purchase or your licence.
- Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard server access logs (e.g. IP address, request time) for security and reliability, as any web host does.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Yaniko Software, each of whom only sees what they need to do their job:
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Resend — delivers license-key and account-management emails.
- Vercel — hosts the website and backend, and provides the anonymous page-view statistics.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else.
Why we process this data
We process purchase and licence data because it's necessary to provide the
software you paid for (performance of our contract with you). Server access
logs are kept on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure
and reliable, and the anonymous page-view statistics described above on the basis of
our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used. Because those
statistics use no cookies and identify nobody, they do not rely on your consent.
How long we keep it
- Stripe customer and purchase records are kept for as long as your licence exists, plus any period required by law (e.g. accounting records).
- A licence token expires automatically after 90 days of inactivity, and is refreshed each time the app successfully confirms a valid licence.
- Data the app stores locally — your licence token, the device identifier, your settings, the list of downloads, and a network diagnostics log — stays on your computer until you remove the app's data folder or uninstall the app.
- The value that lets page views be grouped into a visit is discarded after 24 hours. What remains is aggregate counts, which cannot be traced back to anyone.
International transfers
Stripe, Resend, and Vercel may process data outside the EU/EEA. Where that happens,
they do so under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights
If data protection law such as the GDPR applies to you, you have the right to
access, correct, delete, or export the data we hold about you, and to object to or
restrict how we use it. To exercise any of these rights, email us at
privacy@getyaniko.com. You also have the
right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — in Belgium,
the
Autorité de protection des données.
Children
Yaniko Video Downloader is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and revise the date at the top.
